The dial format arranged in a hexagon is intended to represent both simplicity and strength. An real life example made from a six sided structure made using the carbon atom is called the buckinsterfullerene (buckyball). It is strong and light weight. In the same way, incorporating diverse elements such as intelligence and character with more concrete realities such as biology, technology and resources is one way to envision the problem of sustainability. The potential for sustainability exists, but it will require both individual creativity as well as cooperation to achieve.

Currently, the figure in the center, representing the potential for sustainability, is an average of the six variables. Moving the dial, causes the central figure to be adjusted. There are, of course, more and other factors, yet these six rose to the top after dealing with the issue of sustainability for a number of years.

Ideally, a more complex alogrithm might be used. For now, this figure simply demonstrates what might be some important variables.

A book I have read is recommended for each of the six topics (complexity, character, intelligence, biology, technology and resources). It is hoped the ones suggested will lend some depth and help round out knowledge of a complex subject area.
