Ways to Reduce Footprint and Save Money

Since footprint is tied to how much energy we consume, reducing our energy use can reduce our footprint and save us money in the meanwhile.  Energy is used in the production of most of the goods and services we consume, therefore reducing these or being more efficient can reduce our fossil fuel use and save over the long run.  Often the savings are not realized until we compound them over the long term.  Here are a few simple ways footprint can be reduced and cost savings realized over 25 years.

Move to a low flow showerhead for a family of three: $909.11

A water efficient toilet: $983.47

Telecommuting one day a week for one person: $11,250

Total: $13,142.58

Thus reducing one's ecological footprint doesn't have to be painful and costly.  It can also save money in the long run.

(Water usage rates based on $2.1906 per m3, water including a 100% sewage charge. Telecommuting savings based on 30 cents a kilometre for a 30 km commute.)
